Hello. I am Margaret Messick. I started Costume Inventory Resources in 2010 to help Costume Shops organize their collections. I learned to sew at age 12 and have sewn garments for many theatre productions and my family. I have worked as a database designer and database instructor for over 25 years. Creating the Costume Inventory Database (now the Theatre Inventory Database) allowed me to combine my love of sewing with my experience in designing database applications. I love working with customers to help them understand how to use the databases and inventory tags and labels to get their shops organized.
Margaret Messick
Hello. My name is Peter Messick (yes, I am Margaret's son). I am her theatrical consultant and assist her at the conferences that I attend. Check out my website: petermessick.com. I have a B.F.A. from Cornish College of the Arts in Musical Theatre. I also hold an Associate's Degree in Acting from American River College. I have always had a love for the arts, performing and working behind the scenes. In addition to acting, singing and dancing my experience includes make-up, costuming, running crew, and stage management and was the recipient of a Kennedy Center Award for 'Outstanding Stage Management'. I have trained new stagehands and dressers how to execute quick costume changes and how to handle delicate costumes. When I was frustrated back stage with handling many small costume pieces I came to my mom and gave her the design for the Ultimate Ditty Bag. She started making them and now they are a popular product on our website.
Dancing has always been a big component of my life. I have choreographed one full length show and was assistant director for stage movement for another show. In my years attending Cornish College of the Arts, I was the lead dance captain in many of the shows during my attendance. I am currently looking at programs for a Master's Degree in Choreography.
I love to attend conferences with Costume Inventory Resources whenever I can. It is great to network with other artists and meet costume shop and props managers to help them improve their shop functionality.
